The Residence Collection is a range of premium uPVC window and door systems designed and made in Great Britain. We supply and install three of them, R9, R7 and R2, from our Cheltenham showroom across Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds. All three are timber alternative systems with flush sightlines, made to measure against your actual opening, and fabricated for us by Dekko Window Systems in Lancashire.
Which system you need comes down to the property. R9 replicates 19th century timber joinery and is the one to look at for period homes and conservation areas. R7 is flush inside and out and works on both traditional and contemporary elevations. R2 is the aluminium alternative, with a flush exterior and a square internal detail. Doors are available across all three, so windows and doors can match. There is no standard size to work from, so the quickest route to a real price is a call or a showroom visit.

R9 is built to replicate 19th century timber windows. The exterior is flush, the interior carries a decorative moulding, and the system was designed by mirroring historical window sizes and taking the key principles of Article 4 directions as the starting point. That is why the sightlines read as timber rather than as uPVC pretending to be timber.
The frame is 100mm with nine chambers, which is what carries the performance: an A+ window energy rating, and U-values as low as 0.76 W/m²K triple glazed or 1.2 W/m²K double glazed. Three bead designs are available, decorative, square or staff, with staff bead on special order only.
In our experience, R9 works better than a painted softwood replacement on a Cotswold cottage because the 100mm frame lets you keep close to the original sightlines without the repainting cycle, and softwood on a west-facing elevation in this part of Gloucestershire will want attention long before the guarantee runs out. Where a property is listed, timber is usually still the answer, and we will say so.
R7 carries an elegant flush sash on both faces, with every glass sightline equal so the symmetry holds across a run of windows. It is the most versatile of the three, and it sits as comfortably on a new build as it does on a traditional house. The range covers casement windows, shaped windows, bay and bow windows, orangeries and conservatories, alongside single doors, French doors and engineered doors.
R7 uses a seven chamber design with a 75mm frame depth, taking either 28mm double glazing or 44mm triple glazing. It achieves an A+ window energy rating, with U-values as low as 0.93 W/m²K triple glazed and 1.2 W/m²K double glazed as standard. The same three bead designs are available.
R7 also supports more than one joint method: a traditional mechanical joint, a Timberweld® joint that produces a wooden butt joint appearance inside and out, or a mitre or graf weld. We have found this is the detail nobody asks about at quote stage and everybody notices afterwards, so it is worth deciding on rather than defaulting to.
R2 is the squared, modern system in the collection. The exterior is flush sash, the interior carries a square detail rather than a moulding, and all glass sightlines are equal. The frame is 100mm front to back with nine chambers, taking either 28mm double glazing or 44mm triple glazing. It achieves an A+ window energy rating, with U-values as low as 1.2 W/m²K double glazed as standard and lower again with triple glazing.
In our experience, R2 works better than a slim aluminium window on a solid wall period property being brought up to modern standards, because a nine chamber uPVC frame holds heat better than a thermally broken aluminium frame of similar depth while giving you the same straight-lined look. On a steel-framed extension or a rendered contemporary elevation we would usually specify aluminium instead. We sell both, so we have no reason to push you either way, and we would rather say that up front than sell you the wrong frame.
Every system has a matching door solution, so you can run the same frame, colour and bead across the whole elevation, or deliberately distinguish the door from the windows. The range covers French doors, single doors, Juliette balcony doors, glazed doors, panel doors and engineered doors. Georgian bars are available for a more period look, and sidelights will bring more light into a dark hallway without widening the opening.
Door sashes use a six chamber design with dedicated steel reinforcement, which is what allows the larger sizes, and a triple seal gasket option is available. There are dedicated open-in and open-out sashes rather than one sash adapted to do both jobs.
One detail worth knowing at design stage: the sash mullion can be used to fabricate an engineered door, or to give you the appearance of two separate sashes without actually reducing your glass area. From working with clients on narrow Victorian hallways, that is often the difference between a door that looks right and one that feels boxed in.
Residence group their finishes into collections, and one of them is named for this part of the country. The Cotswold Collection runs Pebble Grey, Painswick, Cotswold Green, Cotswold Biscuit and Clotted Cream. Corse Lawn sits in the Dramatic Collection alongside Noir and No.10 Black. Painswick and Corse Lawn are both Gloucestershire villages, and the colours were named after the stone and the landscape you can see from our showroom.
You can also specify a dual finish, with one colour outside and a different one inside. In our experience, a dual finish with Grained White internally works better than carrying the external colour right through, because a dark frame reads much heavier from inside a room than it does from the street, and it stops the new windows fighting the existing internal joinery on a period property.
We have found that on-screen colour swatches are the single most common cause of regret, and there is no fixing it once frames are made. Come and see the samples in the showroom, or ask us to leave a swatch with you and look at it against your own stone in daylight before you commit.
Replacing windows on a house in a conservation area is often permitted development, but an Article 4 direction removes that right and means you need planning permission before the frames are ordered. Large parts of Cheltenham and much of the Cotswold District are covered. If the property is listed, listed building consent is required regardless of what the window is made from.
R9 was designed around the principles those directions are written to protect, which is why it is the system most often put forward for conservation work. It is not a guarantee. Conservation officers apply their own judgement, and some will accept a timber alternative on a rear or side elevation while insisting on timber at the front.
Our advice is to establish the position with Cheltenham Borough Council or Cotswold District Council before you order anything, and to take the Residence planning and conservation brochure with you rather than a photograph. We are happy to help you put that together, and we would rather delay an order than have you pay for frames that cannot go in.
Approved Document L asks for replacement windows in an existing dwelling in England to achieve no worse than 1.4 W/m²K, or a Band B window energy rating. Replacement doors are held to 1.4 W/m²K. All three Residence systems clear that comfortably, with A+ energy ratings.
The detail that catches people out is ventilation rather than heat loss. If your existing windows have trickle vents, the replacements have to have them too. It is worth settling that at survey rather than discovering it at handover, because vents change how the head of the frame looks.
The Residence Collection design the systems. They are then fabricated by a network of manufacturers, and ours are made by Dekko Window Systems Ltd in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, who fabricate all three of the systems we supply.
That matters more than it sounds. Running R9, R7 and R2 through one fabricator means consistent glazing units, consistent hardware and one lead time to manage, so a project mixing systems across different elevations arrives together rather than in three deliveries with three different colour batches.

We survey, order, fit and warrant the whole job, or supply only if you have your own fitter. The survey is where a window job is won or lost, and on period property it is rarely a like for like measure. We check the structural opening rather than the existing frame, because a hundred-year-old frame that has dropped will hand you a replacement that has dropped with it.
