Origin bifold doors are premium aluminium bifolds designed, powder coated and manufactured in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. There are three systems to choose from: the OB36+ with the slimmest sightlines and best thermal performance, the OB49 which balances slim frames with Secured by Design accreditation, and the original OB72 with wider, heritage-style frames.
Origin started as a family-run company back in 2001 and now operates internationally, winning awards for the design, build quality and security of its doors and windows. As an Origin supplier, we supply and fit Origin bifold doors across Gloucestershire and beyond from our Cheltenham showroom.

All three Origin bifold doors share the same multi-point locking, precision running gear, 150+ RAL colour range and up to 20-year guarantee. The difference is how much frame you see and the look you want to achieve.
Origin's slimmest and most thermally efficient bifold door, with clear, uninterrupted glass.
Re-engineered from the original OB72 with slimmer proportions.
The first Origin bifold door and the design that started it all.
The OB36+ Soho is Origin's slimmest bifold door with steel-style glazing bars, giving you the look of steel doors in a thermally efficient aluminium frame. Inspired by one of the world's most famous urban neighbourhoods, the style suits homeowners who want the doors to be a bold, industrial feature of the room.
Because it is built on the OB36+ system, a Soho bifold keeps the same 84mm sightline, U-values as low as 0.78 W/m²K and suitability for apertures up to 15m. The size, configuration, colour, glazing bar layout and hardware are all made to your specification.
When planning a Soho bifold, it's worth lining the horizontal glazing bars up with nearby windows, internal doors or worktop height, so the grid reads as one continuous design across the room.
The Signature Knurled handle is exclusive to the OB36+ and is a popular finishing touch for Soho doors. It is used across Origin's doors and windows, so your bifolds, French doors and windows can all share the same handle finish.

In our experience, most homeowners decide between the OB36+ and the OB49. We've found the OB36+ is the usual choice for new extensions with large openings and steel-look Soho style glazing, because the slim frames and double thermal break keep both the view and the energy efficiency. The OB49 tends to suit clients who want a slim frame with Secured by Design accreditation, or a door that sits comfortably alongside existing windows.
The OB72 is still the right answer for some period properties, where a wider frame looks more in keeping with the building. From working with clients in our showroom, we've found that seeing the frames side by side is usually what settles the decision.
Here's a more in depth comparison of Origin bifold doors.
As you would expect from a premium manufacturer of bifold doors, Origin offers a range of threshold, cill and glazing options as well as an extensive range of over 150 RAL colours, including textured and dual-colour finishes.
Every frame is powder coated at Origin's own facility in Bicester. Where typical pre-treatment lines use between 5 and 7 cleaning stages, Origin's uses 10, which is why the finish stays consistent for years.
Origin bifold doors carry the ISO9001 accreditation, an international standard that assesses a company's quality management system.
They also carry PAS 24:2016, and the OB49 and OB72 are Secured by Design (SBD), the national police backed standard associated with the security of products used in domestic properties.

Origin bifold doors are made to measure with up to 14 sashes. The number of doors you need depends on the width of your opening. In our experience, a 3+1 works better than an even 4+0 set for most family kitchens because the single traffic door lets you step into the garden without folding back the whole set, and there's no fixed mullion in the way when everything is open.

What sets Origin doors ahead of many other bifold door manufacturers is the engineering, quality and durability of the product. Origin designs its own components rather than buying them off the shelf, including a short wheelbase carriage that guides each door along the track quietly with a gentle push.
Many of our clients are installing bifold doors as part of a much larger home renovation or extension. The bifold doors are often one of the focal points.
For this reason, it is really important that the product looks great but performs safely and effortlessly. Keep the frames clean, the track clear and the locks lubricated, and Origin doors need very little other maintenance.
Origin Bifold Doors - made in Britain
Origin groups its bifold door designs into three styles to help you start. Soho uses glazing bars and bold hardware for an industrial, steel-look finish. Gallery keeps the glass open with minimal sightlines to frame a view. Georgian brings a traditional grid pattern for period homes.
The styles can be mixed, so you could choose Gallery glazing with a Soho handle. Bring photos of your property to the showroom and we'll show you how each style would look.
As many of our clients are families looking to create an indoor-outdoor living space, it's important to us that the bifold doors are safe for children and most importantly, highly durable to withstand years of family life. Origin bifolds have finger-safe gaskets, optional door restrictors and low threshold options to reduce the step between inside and out.
Origin bifold doors come with up to a 20-year guarantee and for clients looking to move quickly, can be available from 24 hours for standard colours and 3 weeks for special RAL colours.

Origin doors are widely regarded as a premium option in the UK market. Compared to many other bifold and window brands, Origin systems are manufactured in the UK, built from high grade aluminium and tested to strict performance standards.
In terms of price, Origin doors typically sit above entry-level systems, but offer better long-term value through superior durability, thermal efficiency and security. Homeowners often choose Origin when they want a reliable, long-lasting product rather than the lowest upfront cost.
Origin bifold doors and windows are known for combining performance, design and flexibility. Key features include:
These features make Origin bifolds suitable for both modern builds and period property renovations.
The main difference is frame size. The OB36+ has the slimmest sightlines and the best thermal performance, with U-values as low as 0.78 W/m²K. The OB49 has sightlines of 110mm and is Secured by Design accredited. The OB72 is Origin's original system, with wider frames that suit traditional properties, and is also Secured by Design accredited.
Origin bifold doors can have up to 14 sashes, and the OB36+ is suitable for apertures up to 15m. As a guide, a 3 door set suits openings from around 1,200mm, a 3+1 suits 1,600mm to 4,960mm and a 3+3 suits 2,400mm to 7,385mm. We measure every opening before ordering to confirm the right configuration.
For many UK homeowners, Origin bifold doors are considered worth the investment due to their build quality, long lifespan and strong warranties. While they may cost more than some alternatives, they often require less maintenance and deliver better performance over time, helping protect both comfort and property value.
The best way to ensure your Origin doors perform as intended is to work with an authorised retailer and installer. At Bifold Shop, we supply and install genuine Origin products and provide expert guidance from specification through to installation.
As Origin bifold door suppliers, our team are more than equipped to help you choose the right system for your home, ensuring correct measurements, configuration and compliance with UK building standards.
Compared to many aluminium bifold door brands, Origin stands out for UK manufacturing, consistent quality control and customisable options. While some brands focus on mass-produced systems, Origin offers a more tailored approach, making them a popular choice for homeowners prioritising performance, aesthetics and reliability.
Yes. Origin bifold doors are made to order and can be customised to suit your home’s layout and style. Options typically include panel configurations, opening directions, glazing specifications, colours and hardware finishes. This makes them suitable for extensions, renovations and new-build projects alike.
