Titan is a UK manufacturer with over 30 years of experience in the rooflight industry. They manufacture, polish, and deliver every product themselves on their own transport, which means the product arrives on site clean and ready to install rather than palletised and wrapped in damage-prone packaging.
The ring beam on the S1 Lantern comes pre-assembled. This reduces installation time on site and removes one of the most common sources of error in lantern roof fitting: assembling structural components on a roof in variable weather conditions.
From working with rooflight systems from various manufacturers over the years, we find Titan’s approach to manufacture and delivery reduces on-site complications more than most alternatives. Less assembly on site means fewer opportunities for things to go wrong during fitting.
The S1 Lantern is Titan’s flagship lantern roof system. It comes in two styles: traditional and contemporary. Both share the same core frame and thermal performance, with the aesthetic differences coming from the number of panes and the visibility of the glazing bars.
The traditional S1 Lantern uses multiple panes divided by visible glazing bars. The effect is classic and structured, and it suits period properties, older homes, and extensions where the goal is to complement the existing character of the building rather than contrast with it.
We fit traditional lanterns regularly across the older housing stock in Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, and the surrounding Cotswold villages, where the architecture calls for a more considered, traditional finish.
The contemporary S1 Lantern features a minimal frame with typically four large panes of glass. The glazing bars recede and the sky becomes the focus. It suits modern extensions, open plan kitchen-diners, and any room where the aesthetic is clean and uncluttered.
In our experience, the contemporary style works better than the traditional style for south-facing kitchen extensions because the larger, uninterrupted panes maximise solar gain in winter without the visual weight of multiple glazing bars overhead.
The S1 Lantern uses a 50mm slim rafter profile. The top caps sit just 8mm above the external glass. Less frame means more sky from every angle. The internal ceiling line stays clean, which is something customers notice and comment on consistently after installation.
Titan uses Thermolock technology across all profiles of the S1 Lantern. This is a multi-chamber thermal break system that outperforms traditional polyamide alternatives found in older and lower-specification lantern roofs.
The result is an overall U-value of 1.0 W/m²k for the complete roof unit. This uses 28mm glazing with argon fill and a warm edge spacer bar as standard. For homeowners running a single storey extension as a year-round living space, this level of thermal performance makes a real difference to heating costs through the winter months.
Security in a glazed roof is often overlooked at the specification stage. The S1 Lantern addresses this with a patent-pending glass lock system using integral gaskets and high-performance glazing tape throughout. All fixings sit internally with no external access points. Anti-tamper security screws add a further layer of protection, and overlapping cast end caps prevent removal of the top caps from outside.
A lantern roof above a kitchen or dining room extension is a potential access point. Specifying a system with a credible security setup at the outset costs nothing extra and provides significant peace of mind.
The S1 Lantern undergoes snow load testing to 1.2KN/m², which covers all UK locations up to 200 metres altitude. For properties in elevated or exposed positions across Gloucestershire and the wider region, this structural reassurance matters. We discuss this with customers on projects in rural or higher-altitude settings as a standard part of the survey process.
The Titan SheerVent is an optional addition to the S1 Lantern. It integrates flush with the lantern profile so it does not disrupt the slim appearance of the roof from inside or outside. Electric actuation with soft start and soft close comes as standard. Optional remote control and a wireless rain sensor are also available.
For south or west-facing extensions, a SheerVent makes a significant difference to summer comfort. A fully glazed roof without ventilation can make a room difficult to use on warm days. We recommend the SheerVent on all south-facing installations where budget allows.
The S1 Lantern has LED light strip channels built into the eaves beam and ridge. LED strip lighting fits cleanly inside the lantern structure with no visible surface-mounted fittings. The effect at night transforms how the space feels and photographs exceptionally well in finished interiors. Several of our recent Cotswolds projects have used this feature to strong effect.
The Titan EDGE is a completely different visual proposition to the S1 Lantern. Where the lantern rises above the roofline, the EDGE sits flush with it. The result is edge-to-edge glass with no protruding frames and no perimeter sealants visible from inside or outside.
The EDGE sits just 63mm above the roof upstand. All fixings are internal. The thermally broken aluminium frame achieves an overall U-value of 1.3 W/m²k, with heat-soaked toughened glass and solar reflective glazing as standard.
Seven stock sizes cover the majority of residential openings, which reduces lead times compared to fully custom-sized alternatives. An opening version is also available for those who need ventilation.
In our experience, the Titan EDGE flat rooflight works better than a lantern roof for rooms where ceiling height is a constraint. Because the EDGE does not rise above the roof line internally, it does not reduce the usable headroom in the space below. For basement extensions, rooms with lower ceilings, or any project where the client wants maximum light with minimum visual intrusion, the EDGE is consistently the right choice.

Korniche is a strong, well-regarded system and suits certain projects well. Titan differentiates itself through the pre-assembled ring beam, the 1.0 W/m²k U-value on the S1 Lantern, and the patent-pending security features. Both the S1 Lantern and the EDGE flat rooflight are available in a wide range of RAL colours. Matching the glazed roof colour to adjacent bifold doors or patio doors creates a coordinated finish that ties the whole glazing scheme together.
Anthracite grey is the most common choice across our installations. Black suits contemporary builds where a strong contrast is the intention. White works well on traditional properties where a lighter frame profile fits the building better.
